The café is the last survivor of a large number of huts built in Wollaton Park in the 1940s to house prisoners of war. Later they were used as changing rooms for footballers and school cross-country runners (of whom I was one). The morning of Coronation Day was drab, but plenty of families were enjoying the park's facilities.
