In 1957 the then 3-year old car was bought by Jock McBain, a garage owner in Chirnside, for his Border Reivers motor racing team. Jim Clark was their most promising driver and this was his first chance to drive a car of such speed. In 1958 he entered 20 races, finished all of them and won 12. His success came to the attention of Colin Chapman of Team Lotus, leading to his career in motor racing. Details are from the information panel by the car, and an article in the October 2013 issue of ‘Classic & Sports Car’ magazine.
