The rear entrance to the Grange has some fine metal gatepost. The door the piers support are, however, very ugly. The walk leaves Chirton village, crosses the Andover Road, A342, and follows a restricted byway southwards before branching off onto a bridleway which ascends the scarp slope onto Salisbury Plain. At the edge of the Westdown Artillery Range, a military training area, a byway is followed east before turning north to follow a bridleway and then a minor road to Marden village. A footpath which becomes a bridleway is then taken, leading back to the starting point in Chirton. About 4¾ miles.
