Statue of William Cavendish, 7' th Duke of Devonshire, (1808-1891), in Devonshire Place, Eastbourne. He is widely regarded as the chief benefactor and founder of modern Eastbourne. In 1858, as 2nd Earl of Burlington, he succeeded to the Dukedom. The statue was paid for by public subscription and unveiled by the Marquess of Abergavenny, Lord Lieutenant of Sussex. The statue was sculpted by William Goscombe John and it was unveiled in 1901.
