Yn wreiddiol bu Capel Gyfylchi yn gapel anwes i Lanfihangel Ynys Afan a chyn 1775 bu mewn cyflwr adfeiliedig. Ond yn ystod y flwyddyn honno fe'i hatgyweiriad gan y parchedig William Davies, curad Castell Nedd fel addoldy i'r Methodistiad lleol ac yno yr addolent am y hanner can mlynedd nesaf. Daeth cyfnod Capel Gyfylchi fel man addoli i ben yn 1826 pan yr agorwyd Capel Jerusalem i lawr ym Mhontrhydyfen lle y trigai trwch o'r boblogaeth. Originally, Capel Gyfylchi was a chapel of ease belonging to Michaelston Super Afan (Llanfihangel Ynys Afan) and before 1775 it had fallen into disrepair. However, during that year, under the guidance of the Reverend William Davies, curate of Neath, it was restored and became, for the next fifty years, a meeting house for local Methodists. Inevitably, with the arrival of industry in the Afan Valley below the old meeting house was deemed too small and remote for the rapidly growing population and it was finally abandoned in 1826 with the opening of Jerusalem Methodist Chapel in Pontrhydyfen.
