This is pretty much the centre of the village as the roads from Pevensey, Windmill Hill, Boreham Street and Hooe converge. The inn dates from 1526 and was the centre of smuggling activity during the 18th century when Wartling was the first stop for contraband having been landed on the beaches near Pevensey and moved across the marshes.
