St George's church is an old one and contains many different periods of creation and restoration. One facelift occurred in 1823 when the row of arches opening into the south aisle were removed and the roof re-pitched to create one space, forming galleries all the way around. Perhaps this stone high up is dated around the time of that work. Either way, it seems to be upside down.
