Brunswick Cemetery was established around 1779 and later became a Unitarian burial ground until 1963. "Ruined" is an artwork commissioned by Bristol City Council to respond to the social and cultural history of the cemetery. The cast iron markers relate to the share certificates of commercial companies which no longer exist or have been taken over such as the West Indies Sugar Corporation and W.D. & H.O. Wills
