This intricately carved slate memorial in the churchyard of St. Andrew’s Church in Coniston village centre marks the resting place of John Ruskin (1819 – 1900), an influential Victorian writer, philosopher and art critic who made his home at Brantwood near Coniston from 1872 until his death. The memorial is clearly visible from The Cumbria Way long distance path which passes beside the churchyard.
