The blue banners on the pavement planters tell snippets of the Barbican's history; the nearest one notes that Catherine of Aragon, Henry VIII's first wife, and Pocahontas in 1501 and 1616 respectively first set foot on British soil here. To the left is 45 Southside, a gallery specialising in ceramics, glass and metalwork by artists based in Devon or Cornwall.
