Blackpool tram no. 762 in North Albert Street, passing Pharos Street, Fleetwood, Lancs

The tram was on its way to the terminus at Fleetwood Ferry Port. The destination blind had already been changed for its return journey to Blackpool, where it would terminate at the Pleasure Beach tram stop. This tram was one of the Balloon class built in the early 1930's by English Electric at their Preston works. This one was built in 1935 and numbered 251. Later it was renumbered 714. In 1982 it had a major rebuild and became a one person operated tram and numbered 762. This and its sister 761 were known as Jubilee cars. This reflected the fact that the rebuilding of 761 commenced during 1977 which was the Silver Anniversary (25 years) of Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne in 1952. In late 2011 the tram went to the Crich tramway museum in Derbyshire. It is currently in the garish Nickelodeon Land advertising livery which it had when it last ran at Blackpool. See:- Image
