The Serpentine Art Gallery was established in 1970 in former refreshment rooms. Built in 1933-34 of grey brick with red brick dressings under a hipped tile roof. Listed, grade II, with details at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1217605 The 265 acres (107 hectares) of Kensington Gardens was originally the western section of Hyde Park, which had been created by Henry VIII in 1536 for use as a hunting ground. The gardens became the private gardens of Kensington Palace and were opened to the public in 1841.
