Looking like a one-eyed monster, Croxley Green's old windmill towers over the suburban housing that now surrounds it. It is believed to have been built in about 1820. It ceased to operate as a windmill in the 1880s when the sails blew off in a gale although corn continued to be ground here until 1899 using steam power. After that the building had various uses including as a chicken house and pigeon loft. It gained a new lease of life after the Second World War when it was converted into residential accommodation and an extension was built in the 1960s. It is grade II listed.
