The wording at the base says that this statue is to St Volodymyr, ruler of Ukraine from 980 to 1015. It goes on to say that it was erected by Ukrainians in Great Britain in 1988 to celebrate the establishment of Christianity in Ukraine by St Volodymyr in 988. There is quite a Ukrainian concentration in this area as the Ukrainian Religious Society of St Sophia is next door - see www.geograph.org.uk/photo/7406013 and the Ukrainian Embassy is close by in Holland Park - see www.geograph.org.uk/photo/7406017
