The bench, in the disused Hull General Cemetery on Spring Bank West, was unveiled in 2022, the year of Philip Larkin's centenary, on 2 December - the anniversary of the poet's death. He lived and worked in Hull for the last 30 years of his life. It marks the spot where Larkin and fellow poet John Betjeman met in 1964 as one of the local haunts featured in 'Down Cemetery Road', an edition of the BBC 'Monitor' series.
