The aircraft is a reminder of the village's association with the nearby Wroughton Airfield. Wikipedia says "RAF Wroughton is a former Royal Air Force airfield near Wroughton, in Wiltshire, England, about 6 km south of Swindon. Ministry of Defence aviation activity ceased in 1972.
