The building is Category B listed and its listing describes it as "Probably Robert Raeburn, circa 1875. 2-Storey and attic L-plan villa with entrance tower; cream ashlar front, grey sandstone coursed and snecked rubble side and rear elevations with ashlar dressings; channelled quoins; roll-moulded window reveals; ashlar mullions". The spire has previously been used as an intersected station by the Ordnance Survey.
