Construction of a new passing loop for eastbound loaded cement and limestone aggregate freight trains is well underway with the new turn-out already in place in the distance to the left (for view from the Hathersage end see: https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/7384307 ). There's still a lot of excavation, soil nailing and bridge making to be done before more track can be laid towards Hathersage, in the distance beyond the railway bridge. This is part of the Hope Valley Capacity Scheme to allow more passenger and freight trains to run more often without delaying each other as much as they do at present.
