From this road junction there are three ways to go, to Warleigh, to Bradford on Avon and to Bath. This is the way to Bradford. Conkwell is a hamlet in Wiltshire, very near the county border with North East Somerset. It is some 3 miles southeast of Bath and about 2¼ miles west of Bradford-on-Avon. The settlement was established to house the workers of the quarries of building stone on both sides of Conkwell. A steep inclined tramway installed at the beginning of the 19th century carried stone down to a wharf on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Dundas Aqueduct.
