Some of the fabric of the Royal Oak is late medieval it was added to in the sixteenth century there are also twentieth century additions. There used to be a list in the bar of all the landlords since the seventeenth century to 1965. There seem have been more managers in the past twenty years than in the previous two hundred. This reflects the fact licensees rarely hold a proper tenancy of a pub these days.
