Former Foss Islands Branch railway

Now converted to the York Orbital cycle and pedestrian route. This was the site of the sidings at the connection into the Rowntree's works on the right. Just before the far bend was the location of Rowntree Halt. This was a special station for Rowntree employees, served by trains which never appeared in the public timetable, formed by an extension of a morning train from Doncaster to York, with a similar afternoon return working. The service ran until 1988 when Rowntree's ceased sending goods by rail and the branch was closed. It was the only regular passenger working on the line.
