Not the actual manor, this house, perched above the lane leading to the lock and the old mill was the farmhouse belonging to Lincoln College who purchased the mill in the C15.; it probably came to be called the Manor House when leased along with the rest of the 'manor' estate by Thomas Nowell in 1789. James Boswell and Samuel Johnson visited it during his time. The house still has extensive gardens and yards from its farming and malting past.The south wing burnt down in 1810, and was rebuilt as a separate house now called Rosedale.
