Originally built as a house around 1720 for a local industrialist Benjamin Molineux (after whom the nearby Wolverhampton Wanderers football ground is also named), it was operated as an hotel in the mid 20th century but then lay empty for a considerable period, falling somewhat derelict until the early 1990s. It now houses the city's archive and records. Grade II* listed https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101282475-molineux-hotel-st-peters-ward#.Y5O_QHbP3IU & https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1282475 in 1949. Timbers in the basement have been tree-ring dated to the mid 1750s, which may suggest some additional work was carried out soon after construction.
