'... to his devotion to the welfare of the people of Brill and district as County Councillor. May 1910.' He died in 1910. He had previously been an M.P. but got thrown out of parliament and jailed for a year when convicted of attempting to procure a 19 year old English girl named Nellie Maude Baskett for immoral purposes. The memorial incorporates a barometer, it is either recording a record high or a record low, or more likely, no longer works.
