The Mackintosh toffee company started as a home-based operation in 1890. This building bears the wording ‘Mackintosh’s toffee works 1898’ and was in use by the company until 1986, shortly before they sold out to Nestle. It is not listed, and looks as if it could shortly be demolished as the adjacent property already has been.
