One of the entrances to Teffont Manor. Teffont Evias is a small, highly picturesque village in the Nadder valley in Wiltshire, some 9½ miles west of Salisbury and the same distance northeast of Shaftesbury. The modern name derives from "Teo", an old Germanic word meaning a boundary, and the Late Latin word "fontana", meaning a spring of water. The village street follows a stream, ‘The Teff’ or 'Teffont Brook', which rises at Spring Head at the north end of Teffont Magna and flows south to join the Nadder.
