Hartshill might not be the obvious place to look for a peace pole but it does have one, located here outside the Friends Meeting House. Peace poles originated in Japan and there are now more than 200,000 around the world, a project promoted by The World Peace Prayer Society. Each pole has the motto 'May Peace Prevail on Earth' in the local language and up to 13 other languages. In this view the English and Welsh versions are visible.
