1902 Napier, one of three racing Napiers at the 2022 run; all successfully completed the run. Rated at 40HP, this car reached Brighton at 12:22, more than an hour and a half after the first Napier racing car, following some minor technical issues. This car is significant in the history of British motor racing. Driven by Selwyn Edge, this car won the 1902 Gordon Bennett Cup, and was the first British victory in international motorsport. Prior to taking up motorsport, Selwyn Edge was a cyclist, racing successfully for the Anerley Bicycle Club (1881), which was my old club.
