This electric winch was installed as an alternative means of operating the ash railway when the steam winch was not in operation. On this day both winches were not in operation and both houses were locked and inaccessible. The winch was originally used at the sewage works to haul an irrigation boom over a filter bed. It was built in 1935 by Hartleys of Stoke-on-Trent and is of historic interest in its own right. It was taken out of service in 2015 and donated to the Museum where it was converted for its current duty.
