One of the many unpleasantnesses of the English access system is that even the limited linear allowances are prone to closure. This unmade drove road was closed to all users with threats of fines for even walking past the gate. The route was rather unappetising anyway, this is clay country and in a hot dry Summer had set into a very rough and uncomfortable surface.
