The pumping station, dated 1969, is operated by the Waterbeach Level Internal Drainage Board, which is responsible for drainage and water-level management of a large area of fenland north-east of Waterbeach. It maintains a network of 35.5km of drains which gravitate to three pumping stations which discharge into the River Cam. This one, near Bottisham Lock, pumps into the river behind the camera position on the floodbank.
