Construction of The Co-op Academy Belle Vue Image run by the Co-Op Academies Trust is progressing steadily. It is being built on the site of Belle Vue Zoo which ran from 1836 - 1977 Image In 1989 Showcase Cinemas Image opened on the site. It closed permanently in March 2020 at the start of the coronavirus pandemic and has now been demolished. The 13-acre site was sold to Manchester City Council.
