The oldest part of Bottom House Farm was built in the late 17th Century. The house was built here next to one of the 8 deep wells in the Parish of Goring Heath so that it could provide the Flint House Estate with water. The house is built of traditional Chiltern timber frame, brick and flint construction. As its name suggests it nestles in a classic chalk 'bottom' and is alongside the old road between Cray's Pond and Goring - Shay Lane - which is now a bridleway. Local legend has it that Dick Turpin used Shay lane as a cut through when marauding in the area.
