The Moor Pool Estate is a Garden Suburb founded by John Sutton Nettlefold between 1907 and 1912, consisting of around 500 houses built across 54 acres. One of the estate's distinguishing features was the provision of allotment gardens for the residents. Later on, garage courts were built on some areas of the allotments, although in time some of these were allowed to fall into disrepair and have now been redeveloped. Another characteristic feature of the estate is the extensive network of narrow pathways, usually hedged, which run between and behind the houses and which are mainly still used.
