On the nursery wall (once a school) "Edward Knowles (1839-1873) Captain of the frigate Northfleet, holed off Dungeness by the Spanish steamer Murillo in January 1873. He and 239 others went down with the ship. His parents were schoolmaster and mistress here during the 1860s, 70s and 80s"
