These exuberant plants seem to love this old part of town. Just in the few nearby streets they grow profusely out of the base of the old walls. They don't seem to particularly like gardens or flower beds, just the uninviting gap between the walls and the roads. The walls contain a lot of chalk rubble. I guess that might have something to do with it. Many of these plants grow to well over two metres high.
