The arcade was built c.1880 to the designs of local architect William Crossland who also designed the nearby Kirkgate Buildings, among others. It is listed grade II (list entry 1224912). Like several of the other Kirklees snowdogs, this one ('Kirk' by Boy Oh Boy Designs) was inside a building and therefore not accessible outside normal shopping hours.
