Not sure what this is supposed to mean. Opinions vary from "the heart of the fruit is on his lips" or perhaps with the oak tree above the shield 'A heart of oak is its own fruit', or even "heart in strength the fruit is his honour". Another suggestion is likely to be 'The heart of an oak is its fruit not itself'. No doubt it made sense to the Rev. Charles Herbert who commissioned it. Image
