At #8 Thomas Street is a café bar called Trof. The first Trof bar was in Fallowfield and a second was opened on Grosvenor Street in what had been the Adult Deaf and Dumb Institute. The third version of this popular format occupies a red brick building on the corner of Thomas Street and Soap Street. The date on the building is 1881 and an 1888 map of the area, shows that the building was occupied by a jeweller. https://manchesterhistory.net/manchester/tours/tour4/area4page30.html
