Salford Village Green, Huddersfield

The term 'village green' conjures up a flat area, possibly used for cricket, surrounded by roads or houses. Not a woodland clearing on a steep slope, as this is. I've not been able to find any information online about who is responsible for it, but the name Salford refers to a small area on this east side of what is now Scar Bottom bridge (a bridge having replaced the original ford as long ago as c.1200).
