This started life in 1904 as a single storey boat store for the Royal Naval Reserve built in the grounds of Sea-Cottage. A district council report around the time said "a boat house was being erected by the Admiralty on the Esplanade, contrary to the provisions of the Public Health Act of 1875". Numerous publications erroneously claim the building was Penarth's first lifeboat home. The building was later increased by the addition of a brick first floor. Until 1st January 2012 it had been 'Mediterraneo at the Boat House' and the owner of Romeo's By The Sea, Peppino Scarico, had been the original owner of Mediterraneo until around ten years earlier.
