The "Bank Holiday" granted for the late queen's funeral is not the normal jolly affair. It is intended to allow the nation to watch her funeral, and so all but the most essential services will close. Even the most ardent republicans will stop work, perhaps because the schools are to be closed, but mainly in solidarity to the rest of the workforce. This well-written notice outside Sainsbury's store succinctly explains the circumstances.
