Emerson Chambers is the building at the centre of the image; it has a complex roof with a number of ridges and facets; dormers, chimneys and domes. It dates from the first decade of the twentieth century and is grade II listed. Many other roofs are in view in the image which was recorded from the top of the John Lewis store in Newcastle city centre. Waterstones bookshop occupies a significant part of the Emerson Chambers building.
