Formerly a malthouse, it is now a Grade II Listed early 19th century pair of premises with a 17th century core. Richard Canlin (d. 1757) and his descendants were maltsters in High Street until the 1840s but I can't confirm if it was here. Named The Old Farm House, no.45 is a 1,959 sq ft 4 bedroom home over two floors and attic. In February 2000 permission was granted to allow one room to be used for retail for antiques and collectables. Apparently it had been a shop in the past. No.44 'The Malthouse' is currently (2022) Salon Ten. Planning was approved for conversion from café (called Eden?) and first and second floor dwellings to health and beauty spa in May 2010, presumably when Studio 10 had already moved in as it was retrospective. Plans indicate a 'Malting Oven feature' is retained in the centre of the building. Conversion to two flats of the upper floors was granted in 2002 with use as retail and café/bar in 2005. In 1985 planning approved "Use of dwelling as extension to restaurant and use of barn as one dwelling" but it was addressed as 44-45 High Street. Then in 1989, just as 44, "Use of gift shop as a reception area for existing restaurant".
