I think this is the first time that I have seen a commemorative plaque for the opening of a roundabout. “Kirklees Metropolitan Council – Grange Moor Roundabout – This plaque was unveiled by Councillor Harold Sheldon – Mayor of Kirklees - on 12th August 1994”. The Blacksmith's Arms is on the 1850 map, and is at the junction of the Barnsley and Grange Moor Road, an ancient road turnpiked in 1758-9, and the Wakefield and Austerlands Trust road of the same date, but rebuilt in the early 19C.
