The gardens of Sussex Square were the first part of the Kemp Town Estate to be laid out and they were enclosed by railings in 1824. There is a notice on the railings giving full details - see https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/7256787 The gardens are private. The houses of Lewes Crescent can be seen on the far side.
