The Railway Inn was a real ale pub on the corner of Great Portwood Street and Avenue Street Image Originally it was a Showell's Brewery house. In 1949 it became a Wilsons Brewery house following merger with Walker & Homfray's Brewery, In 1997 it became one of three pubs run by the Porter Brewing Company in Rossendale and advertised itself as a "Quiet Pub" with no Juke Box nor Pool Table Image It underwent a makeover in 2013 Image Redevelopment plans by next door owner of Carpetright which included demolition of the premises were approved in August 2021. https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/one-best-most-renowned-pubs-21327028 The pub closed for good on 30th January 2022 Image
