A housing estate in Gunton has all its streets named after artists, local and world renowned. George Vempley Burwood, (1844 - 1917) Born at Lowestoft, son of George Burwood, a fisherman, and his wife Mary Ann. He worked at Kirkley as a general cooper, fish label manufacturer and steam sawyer. Proficient at model making, he was commissioned to make a model for Princess Alexandra which is now housed in the Lowestoft Museum. His main interest however was painting. He lived in Lindfield Cottage, Mariner’s Score, Lowestoft until 1911.
