The view from the car park, looking northwest towards Weights Wood. Great Dixter is a house in Northiam, East Sussex, some 10 miles north of Hastings and about 6½ miles northwest of Rye. It was built by Edwin Lutyens who combined an existing 15th century house (northwest wing) with a similar house brought from Benenden, Kent, (southeast wing) together with his own additions (northeast wing). The end result is a recreation of a medieval manor house with great hall, parlour, solar and yeoman’s hall. In the grounds are three 18th-century oast houses, under a common roof, a 15th-century barn and an 18th century barn.
