This classic British-built Bentley R Type from 1954 was spotted in the village of Peakirk. A total of 2,323 R Type cars were manufactured by Bentley Motors Limited at its factory in Crewe between 1952 and 1955. The vehicles were visually and technically very similar to the Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn (produced between 1949 and 1955). The R Type was equipped with a 4,566cc, six-cylinder engine capable of a top speed of 101.7 miles per hour. In 1953, the cars retailed new for £4,481 including purchase tax; adjusted for inflation, this was equivalent to £87,773 at 2021 prices. The roof of the former Peakirk railway station is just visible behind the trees in the background. The station, which is located on the Lincolnshire Loop Line, closed to passengers in 1961 and freight in 1964 and now serves as a private residence.
